‘The Sims 2’ Ultimate Collection Is Free on Origin

EA adds ‘The Sims 2’ Ultimate Collection to its free games roster through online distribution service Origin, but fans will have to act fast to download it.
EA loves to drop surprises for users of its online distribution service Origin. Every so often, gamers can be treated to a free copy of a major title through ‘On the House’ specials — albeit for a limited time only. Previously, EA had released Plants vs. Zombies and Battlefield 3 through this service, and users can currently pick up addictive puzzler Peggle.
However, EA has announced that another title is available for free through Origin — and not through the aforementioned ‘On the House’ service. Right now, gamers can pick up The Sims 2, with a huge amount of additional content, for absolutely nothing. It’s bound to placate any fans of the series who are disappointed over EA dropping support for The Sims 2 last week.
So, what’s the catch? There is none, unless you count adding a product code. All The Sims fans have to do is install Origin and set up an Origin account. Then, select ‘Redeem Product Code’ from the ‘Games’ tab in the Origin menu and enter the code I-LOVE-THE-SIMS. Gamers can also redeem the code online at the Origin website by going to the ‘Redeem Product’ Code page, logging in to their account, and entering the code in the ‘Product Code’ field. You’ll have to be quick, though. The Sims 2 is only available for free until 10AM and July 31.
EA did have a warning for those who already have another version of The Sims 2 installed. If you have a previous copy of the Maxis sim title, but want the Ultimate Collection offered here instead, EA suggests backing up your The Sims 2 save files first. Then, uninstall your version of the game and follow the directions above as normal.
Seems like a no-brainer. The Sims 2 may be nearly a decade old, but it’s seen by many as the real turning point in the series, with a lot of the game’s framework still visible in other The Sims titles. It’s worth bearing in mind that it’s not just the core game you’re getting here, either. All eight of the game’s expansion packs are also included in the free version, so your Sims will be able to have pets and go to university.
It’s another nice gesture from EA, even if the aim of all these free downloads is to get more people using Origin. It’s also a nice stop-gap for those waiting for the release of The Sims 4 on September 2. Grab your copy now — after all, it may well be your last chance to play The Sims with swimming pools. That feature, along with the toddler age span, is being left out of The Sims 4.

Following EA’s announcement that it will be ending support for The Sims 2 and would be giving away all of the game’s expansions to players who already own a copy of the game, the company has made The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection available completely free for anyone to download and keep until 31 July.

1. Get Origin (it’s free)
To get your hands on The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection for free, you’ll first need to download and install Origin, EA’s digital distribution software, if you haven’t done so already. See also:

Click here to download the EA software and follow the instructions provided, then move on to step 2.
If you’ve never used Origin before, you’ll need to create a free Origin Account to use the Origin software you’ve just downloaded. It’s quick and easy to create an Origin Account, and
you can do so here.
Once you’ve signed up and downloaded and installed the Origin software, you’ll need to launch the Origin application and log in using the account details you just created.
4. Redeem your game
Go to the ‘Games’ tab in the Origin menu (right at the top of your screen) and click ‘Redeem Product Code.

A pop up box will appear. The code you’ll need to enter is I-LOVE-THE-SIMS. You don’t need to have a code from a box or manual like it says, simply type I-LOVE-THE-SIMS into the box, as shown below.
If you’ve already registered for Origin, you can skip straight to step three, or visit the Origin code redemption page online using the same redemption code in the ‘Product Code’ field.
Unfortunately for Mac users, The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection only works on Windows.
You’ll need to redeem your code by 31 July at 10AM PDT, which is 6PM BST for those in the UK.
You’ll now be able to download and install The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection at any time by going to My Games in the Origin app and clicking on The Sims 2. The collection includes all of The Sims 2 expansions and stuff packs, as listed below.

Ginny and Ella broke down during some manipulations with the town. In Simp, we correct the gender, and in the game, we set the age with Sim Modder (the code of the developer is taken out like a figurine of a baby). Personally, I don’t rule gender, only age.
