Pokemon Go Arlo counters December 2022: Best Pokemon to use & weaknesses

Defeating Pokemon Go’s Team Rocket Leader Arlo can be difficult, so we’ve got the best counters for his weaknesses that will lead you straight to victory. From Mawile to Scizor, Salamence, and Dragonite, here’s how to beat his lineup in December 2022.

One of the most exciting features of Pokemon Go is the battles you can enter against Team Go Rocket. The nefarious villains invade PokeStops within the game and use their aggressive Shadow Pokemon to battle against anyone who interacts with them.

If you win the battle, you’ll get the chance to capture one of their Shadow Pokemon, which can either be ‘purified’ for a CP boost or left as a Shadow with higher attack stats if you’re competitive-minded or looking to master Raid battles.

Best team to beat Arlo in Pokemon Go

Niantic / The Pokemon Company

With the right team, defeating Arlo will be so much easier.

One of the best teams you can take into battle against Arlo in Pokemon Go is Darmanitan, Mamoswine, and Rampardos.

Darmanitan is a solid opener for defeating Mawile and it can also defeat Scizor if Arlo sends it out in Phase 2. Next, go with an Ice-type like Mamoswine as it can easily take down three of Arlo’s potential Pokemon: Salamence, Staraptor, and Dragonite.

Your final Pokemon should either be a Steel-type like Metagross for defeating Granbull or a Rock-type like Rampardos for defeating Charizard. You can switch this one up once you’ve figured out which lineup Arlo is using in your specific encounter.

Remember, Arlo’s lineup changes often in the game, so check back here next time you fight them to make sure your favorite counters will still be effective.

How to beat Arlo in Pokemon Go (December 2022): Best Salamence counters and weaknesses

Pokemon Go’s Arlo has a fearsome party of Pokemon that features Charizard, Salamence, and Staraptor in December 2022. If you’re finding that toppling Team Rocket Leader Arlo is proving to be tricky, then use our detailed guide showing you how to explot their Pokemon’s weaknesses.

Even though Combat Power seems like the ideal parameter to judge a Pokemon in Pokemon Go, the game’s combat system incorporates several other mechanics that can influence damage inflicted and received.

This is why players should not feel intimidated when Team Rocket Go leaders like Arlo attack them with fearsome Pokemon that have over 5,000 CP. When it comes down to it, Pokemon with inferior CP can easily overcome Pokemon that appear stronger on paper.

Defeating a trainer/Pokemon largely depends on discovering their type-based weaknesses and the best counters for their Pokemon.

Team Rocket Leader Arlo is no exception, and here’s a list of all the weaknesses and counters that will help you take down his December 2022 Pokemon Go lineup including Charizard and Salamence.

How to beat Arlo’s Pokemon in Pokemon Go

Arlo will attack you with any three of the following in Pokemon Go during December 2022:

  • Mawile
  • Salamence
  • Staraptor
  • Charizard
  • Scizor
  • Granbull
  • Dragonite

Mawile is guaranteed to be the first Pokemon Arlo uses, so you can always prepare for this opening fight with complete consistency.

For the second battle, he can choose Salamence, Staraptor, or Charizard, giving Arlo some wiggle room, and a potential headache for yourself if you’re unprepared.

Finally, the third Pokemon is yet again a random choice, this time between Scizor, Granbull, and Dragonite. Again, as long as you know which three foes you could come up against then it eliminates a lot of the surprise.

How to counter Arlo’s Mawile in Pokemon Go

Mawile is weak against Ground and Fire in Pokemon Go. It can learn a variety of moves but none of them are super effective against Fire-type Pokemon. In contrast, one of its fast moves called Ice Fang deals more damage against Ground-type Pokemon.

So here are some of the best Fire-type Pokemon to deal with Mawile:

  • Chandelure with Fire Spin and Overheat.
  • Entei with Fire Fang and Overheat.
  • Moltres with Fire Spin and Overheat.
  • Arcanine with Fire Fang and Flamethrower.
  • Houndoom with Fire Fang and Flamethrower.

How to counter Arlo’s Salamence, Staraptor, or Charizard in Pokemon Go

Salamence

Salamence is a Dragon-Flying-type Pokemon that is weak against Ice, Fairy, Rock, and Dragon attacks. However, Ice is the best counter as it grants a double ‘super effective’ increase in power and deals 256% damage.

  • Read More: All Lapras weaknesses in Pokemon Go and best counters

Having said that, Salamence can learn Fire Fang and Fire Blast which are super effective against Ice Type Pokemon. As a result, in certain situations, Fairy and Dragon-type can be more reliable. Salamence is most susceptible to the powers of the following Pokemon Go creatures.

  • Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche.
  • Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche.
  • Glaceon with Ice Shard/Frost Breath and Avalanche.
  • Galarian Darmanitan with Ice Fang and Avalanche.
  • Garchomp with Dragon Tail and Outrage.

Staraptor

Favoring a normal/flying type, Staraptor is weak against multiple sets of Pokemon types including Electric, Ice, and Rock.

So we’ve gone for a full line-up that concentrates on these types and is capable of dropping big-time elemental moves to test Arlo’s Staraptor early.

  • Galarian Darmanitan with Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Glaceon with Frost Breath and Avalanche
  • Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Magnezone with Spark and Wild Charge
  • Rhyperior with Smack Down and Rock Wrecker

Charizard

Every Charizard is weak against Rock, Water, and Electric attacks with Rock actually being its biggest weakness in Pokemon Go, not water as most players think. Fans of the game can expect a double ‘super effective’ effect while using Rock against Charizard because it belongs to the Fire and Flying categories.

  • Read More: Sinnoh Stone in Pokemon Go: How to get and uses

None of Charizard’s attacks can deal significant damage to Rock-type Pokemon and there is no reason to not use them. Check out a few of the best options for you to consider against Arlo.

  • Rhyperior with Smack Down and Rock Wrecker.
  • Rampardos with Smack Down and Rock Slide.
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down and Stone Edge.
  • Golem with Rock Throw and Stone Edge.

How to counter Arlo’s Scizor, Granbull, or Dragonite in Pokemon Go

Scizor

Fire is Scizor’s biggest and only weakness in Pokemon Go and none of its attacks are effective against the type. Poison and Grass are basically benign against Scizor because it belongs to Steel and Bug types and players must refrain from using them against it.

As for Fire-type Pokemon, there are many great prospects in the game:

  • Moltres with Fire Spin and Overheat.
  • Entei with Fire Fang and Overheat.
  • Arcanine with Fire Fang and Flamethrower.
  • Charizard with Fire Spin and Blast Burn.
  • Darmanitan with Fire Fang and Overheat.

Granbull

If you come head-on with Granbull, even though it’s not as physically intimidating as the other Pokemon, it can still pose a problem. This is why you need to focus on its weaknesses as a Fairy-type – Poison and Steel.

We recommend the following Pokemon and moves to take it on:

  • Dialga with Iron Head and Metal Claw
  • Lucario with Bullet Punch and Flash Cannon
  • Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash
  • Toxicroak with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb

Dragonite

The historic Dragonite has entered the fray and the Dragon-type/Flying Pokemon is greatly susceptible to Dragon, Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type attacks.

Here’s how best to deal with Dragonite in Pokemon Go:

  • Glaceon with Lick and Sludge Bomb
  • Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Rampardos with Smack Down and Rock Slide
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down and Stone Edge
  • Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche

Best team to defeat Arlo in Pokemon Go

Some teams that should be able to beat Arlo’s lineup in almost every situation are Rhyperior, Charizard, and Metagross, or alternatively Rampardos, Entei, Chandelure, and also Tyranitar, Moltres, Excadrill.

Having a Rock-Type and a Fire-Type Pokemon is a must to defeat Arlo. Charizard and Salamence are weak against the former, whereas Scizor and Mawile are vulnerable to the latter.

How to beat Team Rocket Leaders in Pokemon Go

It’s not just Arlo that you’ll have to fight in Pokemon Go as there are other Team Go Leaders for you to tackle head-on, and this includes other tough foes in Cliff and Sierra.

After defeating them, the ultimate challenge is to defeat Giovanni, and here’s how you can beat Giovanni and his Shadow Latios in Pokemon Go.
