- Mass Effect Legendary Edition (PS4)
Genre: Action-Rollenspiel
Release: 14. Mai 2021
Metascore: 87
Preis: 69,99 Euro - Biomutant (PS4/PS5)
Genre: Open World, Action-Rollenspiel
Release: 25. Mai 2021
Metascore: 64
Preis: 39,99 Euro - Divine Knockout (PS4/PS5)
Genre: Plattform-Kampfspiel
Release: Angekündigt
Metascore: tbd

Need for Speed Unbound – 2. Dezember
Als nächstes und ebenfalls am 2. Dezember erscheint Need for Speed Unbound, der neueste Eintrag in Criterions Rennsport-Franchise.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion – 13. Dezember

Intro
December pleases with large projects, but lays down its trump cards at once: both the «killer» Dead Space from her father, and the tactics about superheroes from the creators of XCOM, and the return of the Need for Speed series that have slept for three years, are released in the first days. Toward the middle of the month, a shooter with a pistol crackling incessantly will also appear.
What other heroes will keep us company in preparation for the New Year, our traditional article will tell.
The Callisto Protocol
Genre | Action |
Developer | Striking Distance Studios |
Publisher | Krafton Game Union |
Platforms | PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series |
Release date | December 2, 2022 |
“I took the announcement of Dead Space as a compliment. But I’m also a little upset with them. The feeling is very strange, as if you have lost touch with your game. They want to do it better than you did, ”said Glen Scofield, the creator of Dead Space, who left Electronic Arts back in 2009, at the beginning of the year. The feelings of the head of Striking Distance Studios can be understood, but the irony is that his team is doing about the same thing — making an improved Dead Space.
recommendations
The Callisto Protocol was labeled as a «game in the PUBG universe» for a long time, but in the end, the authors refused to be associated with the multiplayer hit. In it, we find ourselves in the year 2320 on the moon of Jupiter, where a special regime colony is located. The spaceship of the protagonist, dangerous goods carrier Jacob Lee, crashes on Callisto as a result of a terrorist attack, and the man is sent to jail without trial or investigation. He does not have to sit long: the prisoners, transformed under the influence of an unknown disease, begin to smash the prison, the security systems give them back, and as a result of total chaos, Jacob gets out of the cell — towards incredible horrors.
Although the opponents are now not Necromorphs, but biophages, the principles of fighting slimy mutants are similar. We deprive them of limbs, throw monsters in different directions with the help of an anti-gravity device and use cartridges as rationally as possible. True, due to an even more acute shortage of ammunition, you often have to rely on close combat, since Lee knows how to dodge attacks and block them. A well-timed series of blows with a club — and the enemies leave defenseless special areas responsible for the mutation. This is where a pistol comes in handy — you just need to shoot accurately, otherwise there is a risk of only accelerating the transformation of the enemy into an even stronger and more aggressive creature.
The developers place particular emphasis on unpredictable AI that is not ready to put up with the status of a «victim». Monsters adapt to Jacob’s style and love to play with him: for example, defiantly climbed into one vent, and then jumped out of another. Due to this, The Callisto Protocol is also replete with frightening scenes, and there are so many sharp moments that you get tired over time, as some journalists say. But there are even more complaints about optimization — obviously you can’t do without patches.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Genre | Tactics |
Developer | Firaxis Games |
Publisher | 2K Games |
Platforms | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
Release date | December 2, 2022 |
Games in the Marvel universe are still very far from Warhammer in terms of quality, but they certainly don’t smell of any stability. To provoke a good «Spider-Man», then to give out a disgusting «grindilka» about the Avengers, and then, when the bar of expectations flew into hell, to release the fascinating «Guardians of the Galaxy» — with this approach, just wait for the catch. Fortunately, Firaxis Games, no matter how you feel about misses on aliens with a 95% chance of hitting, does not knit brooms, because Midnight Suns of the entire comic company in recent years is the least of concern.
At the same time, she has the most unusual tone of the story — thoroughly saturated with mysticism. The witch Lilith, having returned from the other world and obtained the «Book of Sins», is trying to call Chthon — the evil Elder God and the oldest expert in dark magic. A dozen superheroes oppose the villainess and her henchmen, including Iron Man, Captain America, Blade, Ghost Rider and other popular characters. And the main trump card of the detachment (and the main character of the game) is the Hunter, the child of Lilith, who once defeated his own mother. During the 70-hour campaign, everyone will get their moment of glory, and countless conversations at the base with each of the characters will become an integral part of the passage.
In addition to the heavy focus on combat relationships, Midnight Suns also differs from XCOM in its combat system. Firstly, superheroes should not sit in cover and calculate the probability of an accurate attack — the fights are dynamic and open, and the key to success is the rapid destruction of enemies and distracting them from their weakest warrior. Secondly, the three of us go on missions, and each character takes with him a deck of eight cards that are responsible for attack or defense. A team turn consists of using three cards and one movement action, and if your Spider-Man passes out, then you are not left with two cards per turn — just one of his comrades will pull the strap «for himself and for Sasha «. Thirdly, the more actively we disable opponents, the sooner we get access to special moves and increase the chances of clearing the map before reinforcements arrive.
The card system keeps gameplay fresh for longer by adding an element of randomness. Diversity is also added by skirmishes with bosses like Venom and secondary goals (cause 250 damage in two turns). If the battles are still tiring, you can explore the vast base and find pieces of the Hunter’s memories of his mother on it. To do this, you will have to solve small puzzles and use four types of skills that are not available in battle. However, even such respite does not look like a panacea for such a long campaign. Firaxis Games is taking risks, relying on a polished balance, and instead of a case of champagne, it may end up with a crowd of tired players.
Need for Speed: Unbound
Genre | Racing |
Developer | Criterion Games |
Publisher | Electronic Arts |
Platforms | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
Release date | December 2, 2022 |
Justin Roiland, co-creator of the hit animated series Rick and Morty, has already made one foray into the gaming industry with his studio Squanch Games. Trover Saves the Universe was hardly captivating with the gameplay, but the humor fell right into the hearts of the cartoon fans. There was a downside: those who always thought the adventures of the mad scientist and his grandson were just plain stupid should stay away from Trover as well. It seems that the second independent project of the company will also not be for everyone.
His main character, after graduating from school, failed to find a job and plunged into the abyss of infamy until aliens attacked the Earth. The alien drug cartel G3 learned that the best psychoactive substances are obtained from people, and arrived to harvest, but did not keep track of the talking gun. The cannon, voiced by Roiland himself, falls into the hands of the protagonist and tells that other sociable trunks also need to be saved. After diving into a portal in his own home, the hero sets off on a journey through new worlds in search of enslaved weapons and cartel leaders led by Garmantuos.
Firearms recaptured from the invaders (as well as a talkative knife) affect the passage in different ways: one gun provides guidance on secret paths, the other opens access to new zones on already explored maps. In addition, each of them has its own set of improvements and technical features. All this will come in handy in battles against purple acid-spitting frogfish, yellow humanoids armed with laser rifles and bosses like an overgrown jumping ant.
The flashy brightness of High on Life contrasts with the gloomy tone of most recent shooters, but should not be misled about the difficulty: no one promises an easy ride. Although for those who need only the plot, there is a special story mode. Another thing is that spending ten hours in the company of incessantly chatting jokers is a load that not everyone can handle.

What to play in December 2022 — new games calendar
Calendar year 2022 is gradually coming to an end. Together with it, the gaming year is approaching its logical finale. Not so many interesting games will be released in December, but some still deserve attention.
We are talking about the most noteworthy gaming innovations of December 2022. There was a place for rethinking the cult horror, superheroes and prettier Geralt of Rivia.
Games in material
The Callisto Protocol
- Genre: horror
- Release date: December 2,
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
The Callisto Protocol can be considered the heir to the ideas of Dead Space. The latter at one time became one of the main gaming horror revelations of the «zero», but it was ruined by a number of bad decisions on the part of the publisher EA. The main developer of the first part of Dead Space, Glen Scofield, did not forget about his brainchild, so he returned to 2022 to show how space horror should be made.
The Callisto Protocol revolves around a man, Jacob Lee, who finds himself in the Tinplate Prison. Prisoners in it massively turn into terrible monsters. Now Jacob’s task is to survive and find a way to save himself, while simultaneously trying to understand what led to the mutations.
To do this, Jacob will have to investigate all the secrets of Callisto. The monsters in the game are creepy and dangerous, so any available means will do to fight them. And they really don’t like to die, so in most cases they need to be dismembered right into the meat. The constant feeling of threat emanating from every nook and cranny will not allow you to relax.
By the way, The Callisto Protocol was originally planned as part of the overall PUBG universe. Which already sounds pretty wild. But the idea was ultimately abandoned.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns
- Genre: tactical
- Release date: December 2,
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Firaxis Games is known for its Civilization turn-based strategy series and the reimagining of XCOM tactical games. It was with the latter that Marvel’s Midnight Suns was most often compared before its release. But on the release, the players got something more original.
In the world of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, magic awakens the ancient gods and the end of the world approaches. You have to assemble a team of superheroes to give the villains a fitting rebuff. You create the main character in the game on your own, and familiar characters like Venom, Hulk and Iron Man go to work with him.
The gameplay here combines elements of tactics, card game and social simulation. In each battle, you give orders to superheroes using a deck of cards with random abilities. And in your free time, you can improve the team and strengthen relationships with individual characters.
Critics and gamers alike liked the mixture, and even with Marvel canons, the game does well.
Need for Speed Unbound
- Genre: racing
- Release date: December 2,
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
The Need for Speed series was once considered the best in fun arcade racing with expensive cars and escaping the police. Those days are long gone, now Forza Horizon is considered the best entertainment for those who like to steer. But nobody thinks about Need for Speed, and Unbound is another attempt by the developers of the series to find a new niche.
This time the focus is on style and customization. In Unbound, you can add unique effects to the car, such as smoke from under the wheels. And in general, the game is stylized as modern animation in the spirit of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The rest is played by the standard set of entertainment for the Need for Speed series. Street racing, police chases, room for tuning, multiplayer modes — all this in Unbound. And even just driving it is kind of fun, which is the most important thing for racing games.
Choo-Choo Charles
- Genre: horror
- Release date: December 9,
- Platforms: PC
You must have heard about Thomas the Tank Engine at least once in your life. This is a character for children, who, however, regularly scares adults because of his unusual image. The developer of Choo-Choo Charles probably heard about Thomas the Tank Engine, because otherwise the idea of the game cannot be explained.
In the world of Choo-Choo Charles, there is a special Charles engine. This is a spider-like engine, which is also very angry and aggressive. He terrifies the locals. And the task of the protagonist is to give Charles a fitting rebuff.
To do this, you need to explore the local open world and improve your own train. For example, by installing a powerful weapon on it. The train idea looks interesting on its own. And in such an unusual horror style, it generally seems to be the main release of the month.

- Genre: JRPG
- Release date: December 13,
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch
Another classic JRPG, but much more serious. At one time, Crisis Core significantly supplemented the canon of the Final Fantasy VII world. And even though not all plot decisions seem successful today, a lot of people still liked the prequel.
The game takes place before the start of Final Fantasy VII (and its remake). The protagonist Zak is a professional soldier who finds himself in the middle of a brewing crisis. Which may well lead to catastrophic changes throughout the planet.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is a remake of the original Crisis Core that was released on PSP. The graphics in the new version were brought to a modern level, the gameplay was also made more convenient, but the developers promised not to touch the very basis of the game.
High on Life
- Genre: shooter
- Release date: December 13,
- Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Listening to any High on Life trailer or gameplay, you may encounter familiar voices. The thing is that the game was invented by the creator of Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland. He also voiced many local characters, hence the recognition.
In the game world, a special alien cartel wants to use people as drugs. The main character seems to be not a hero at all, but it is he who has to save humanity. And for this you need to master the arsenal of unusual talking weapons.
In terms of gameplay, High on Life is quite a classic shooter. But it is unlikely that the game will be played for the sake of its mechanics. After all, first of all, this is a rather unusual comedy that will definitely appeal to all fans of Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites.
