Lots of video games are pretty. But how many are this pretty?

Just look at that brilliant blue sky!

EA

Right, yes, exactly.

This is «Battlefield 1,» a new first-person shooter coming this holiday to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It aims to depict the grisly reality of World War I. If these early images are anything to go on, that depiction is going to be incredibly impressive to gawk at.

Follow us below for even more!

More than just a pretty face, the destroyed European landscape below acts as symbolic representation of the destruction of the «old world.»

EA

The idyllic, non-industrial world of the past was coming to a close quite literally, with bombs dropping overhead from the first-ever aerial combat in a major war.

Here’s a glimpse of that gorgeous world, pre-bombs.

EA

World War I was a mash-up of more traditional armaments with newly emerging weapons, like zeppelins.

EA

Tanks also made their first appearance on a grand scale.

Just imagine rolling into a battle on a horse and the opposing army sends in hulking metal death machines.

EA

It’s this juxtaposition that «Battlefield 1» intends to examine. You’ll be literally running through the ruins of «Old World» Europe, evading gunfire from modern era weapons like sniper rifles and machine guns.

EA

The zeppelins seen here are more than just set-dressing.

You and your teammates (up to 32 people per team) will be able to take them down, which permanently affects the battlefield.

EA

You won’t be able to take down these windmills, though much of the environment in «Battlefield 1» is destructible if you have the right tools for the job (read: explosives).

The rain seen here is a major addition to the «Battlefield» series. Weather changes throughout matches, which can affect bullet trajectory and distance. Madness!

EA

The game will look even prettier when it arrives this October — all these images were captured from a work-in-progress version of the game running on a high-end PC.

EA

Thankfully, it’s not all doom and gloom (images of the game, not World War I — that’s all doom and gloom).

Moments of brilliant blue sky punctuate the abject sadness of The Great War.

Just look at that brilliant blue sky!

EA

If you’d like to see the game in action — and we’re betting you do — check out the latest trailer right here:

The Battlefield Portal allows you to create the battlefield of your dreams

The Battlefield series has a long history both in reality and in the game. In the nearly 20 years that the venerable shooter franchise has existed, players have experienced conflicts from World War I (Battlefield 1) to more than a century into the future (Battlefield 2142). It may seem like you’ve seen it all, but the Battlefield team has one big surprise up its sleeve. With the upcoming release of Battlefield 2042, developers are putting more power into the hands of players than ever before. With a new feature called the Battlefield Portal, fans will be able to create, share and discover amazing, brand new Battlefield experiences.

Electronic Arts calls the Battlefield Portal «Your Battlefield, Your Way», and it shows. At its core, Battlefield Portal gives players the ability to combine items (including weapons, vehicles, classes, and more) from four different Battlefields. games to create a whole new experience. But everything is much deeper. With a powerful editor, you can customize almost every element of the experience and then share that experience with other Battlefield fans. It would be easier to call it user-generated content, but that doesn’t sell it.

During a recent event, we got up close and personal with the Battlefield Portal by watching the developers stage a battle between WWII soldiers from Battlefield 1942 and futuristic soldiers from Battlefield 2042. As if that wasn’t cool enough, we watched a bunch of soldiers , armed only with knives, fought a bunch of fighters armed only with defibrillators. If you’ve ever played the game of «who wins in a fight» then this experience is for you.

The Battlefield Portal uses four games: Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3 and (of course) Battlefield 2042. This means you can use just about anything from these multiplayer games to build whatever your heart desires. In addition to weapons and more, each of the games brings favorite cards to the party. You will be able to fight on six maps from Battlefield 1942 (Battle of the Bulge and El Alamein), Battlefield 3 (Caspian Frontier and Noshahr Canals) and Battlefield Bad Company 2 (Valparaiso and Arica Harbor). as well as all seven All-Out Warfare maps from Battlefield 2042.

Each of these cards supports up to 128 players on Xbox Series X|S and 64 players on Xbox One. What’s more, all old cards have been rethought and updated with new technologies to meet modern requirements. For example, Battle of the Bulge now has building destruction, and Arica Harbor now has an ebb tide that changes the battlefield during a match.

Battlefield Portal lets you play both official EA games and community games made by players. To see the best of the best community-created games, there will be a rotation of EA-selected games. If you’re the type of person who enjoys creativity as much as experience, there’s a good chance you’ll spend a lot of time in Battlefield Builder.

At its core, Battlefield Builder is a web-based platform that allows creators and players to create anywhere. The team felt it was important to make it web-based, as this would allow them to fix or update it on the fly and give more people the opportunity to use it. Get inspired on the bus? Add experience to it! Battlefield Builder will include an easy-to-use standard editor and a deeper logic editor that is more like programming.

While you can create your own game mode from scratch, Battlefield Builder also has many existing game mode templates (including Team Deathmatch and Conquest) that you can customize and customize to your liking. For example, our demo developer shared a Snipers vs Shotguns game type he was working on. You can set up three different game elements: mode, series, and general.

In the «Mode» section, you will be able to select the basic mode, as I mentioned above, as well as the map you want to play on. In the «Settings» tab of this section, you can change the number of players (both total and per team). In fact, you will be able to create asymmetrical teams, which will allow you to make one player super powerful while fighting 127 weaklings.

Next was the «Series» section, where you can choose the games from which teams and factions will be assembled. You might want to try BF1942 vs. Bad Company 2, or opt for factions like Germans vs. USA where everything related to that faction will be in play. You can also toggle certain classes on and off, allowing Medics to finally show why they are better than Engineers. Here you can also choose which weapons will be in the game, as well as which attachments will be supported. Only iron sights, anyone?

Finally, there’s the General section, where the real fun happens. Whether you turn on friendly fire for any of the teams, or give them headshot or bodyshot multipliers, there’s a lot you can do here. You can also set abilities for each team, such as whether they can run or lie down, or whether they can use their compass or minimap.
