Design

3D Universe

Dangerous peace-maker. One shot certain put a man down. Approach with extreme caution.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City website.

Appearing in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the Python is based on the Colt Python, a .357 Magnum caliber revolver, specifically the version with a 6″ (15 cm) barrel.

The GTA Vice City Stories rendition is named Equalizer and features a scope, although this scope cannot be used. However, the cutscenes of the missions Caught as an Act, The Exchange, and Blitzkrieg Strikes Again feature a non-scoped Python.

Grand Theft Auto IV

The Python, or a weapon based on it, was intended to appear in Grand Theft Auto IV, along with the current Pistol and Combat Pistol, but was scrapped for unknown reasons. The only evidence of it is a pre-release render depicting Niko Bellic with a revolver in his hands, which, based on the positioning of the front iron sight, the weapon had a 4″ (10 cm) short barrel. It is unknown if the weapon retained the capacity of six rounds, as some weapons in the game were denoted to have certain inconsistencies in ammunition capacity compared to their real-life counterparts. This model in particular appears to be recycled from Manhunt.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

The Python appears in Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars as the Revolver. Although it cannot be visibly seen in the game, a HUD image of the weapon can be seen on the touch screen and on the Ammu-Nation website. Strangely, it resembles a snub-nosed .38 Smith and Wesson or a Colt Detective Special.

Performance

3D Universe

The Python is the most accurate handgun available in the 3D Universe and is also the most powerful handgun (along with the Desert Eagle), able to kill an NPC with a single shot. However, the gun cannot be fired while running, and must be fired from a standing position (grasping the butt of the gun with the right hand, then cradling the right hand and gun with the cupped left hand, all while planting feet at a wide stance) due to the heavy recoil. It also has a moderate cylinder capacity of 6 shots, making it excellent against small groups.

Trivia

General

  • Rockstar Games renamed the Colt Python to .357 in later versions of GTA Vice City, possibly to avoid copyright and trademark infringements.

3D Universe

  • In GTA Liberty City Stories, the spent shells are ejected while firing, which is impossible for any revolver.
  • Though the weapon itself does not appear in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the model from GTA Vice City is used for the giant Python at the entrance of the Ammu-Nation in Market, Los Santos.
  • The name Equalizer may be a reference to the saying «God made man, Samuel Colt made them equal».
  • The scope on the Python in GTA Vice City Stories may be visually inspired from a gun used in the movie «The Terminator», although the gun from the movie was actually an AMT Hardballer (clone of the Colt M1911) rather than a revolver. Another possible pop culture reference is from Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, a raider boss name Lord Humungus uses a Scoped Revolver, the slight inaccuracy being that Lord Humungus’ scoped revolver is a Smith & Wesson Model 29 . 44 Magnum, not a Colt Python.
  • Within GTA Vice City game files, the model and the texture files of a shorter Python exist. It is still unknown if the gun was additional or not.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

A rendering of the papercraft Revolver from the GTA Chinatown Wars section of the Rockstar Games Social Club.

  • The description of the gun is a reference to Dirty Harry.
  • Under the GTA Chinatown Wars section of the Rockstar Games Social Club website, members may download a printable papercraft model of the game’s Revolver. The weapon’s design differs in terms of detailing.

Bugs/Glitches

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

  • If the player fires the Python while pressing the move left and move right buttons, Tommy will stick his knees together, but after the firing animation ends, he will also stick his legs to next to each other, and then will slowly return to his normal position (tested on PC).
  • Against groups of enemies, it is possible to increase the fire rate of the Python to near that of the standard pistol by pressing the «Fire Weapon» and «Cycle Target» buttons at the correct time, one-shot killing several enemies in a few seconds. This is difficult to achieve, as the inputs must be during the same frame. If timed incorrectly after firing a shot, Tommy will cycle his aim to the next target and the firing animation will play, but a round will not be fired. This can be dangerous as the standard wait time between shots is already high. (Tested extensively on the PS2 version, both console and emulator copies).

How to unlock the GTA Online Navy Revolver

Once you’ve found all five clues, you’ll receive a text message from the GTA Online serial killer. It reads:

«I’m sick of you sticking your nose in where it doesn’t belong! Now I’m not going to lie… what happens next… won’t be nice for you.»

The Los Santos Slasher is now on your trail, though he will only appear between the hours of 19:00 and 05:00 in areas to the north side of the island. Go and hang around up there, until a red skull icon appears on your map – the serial killer spawns behind you, so be ready to fight!

The Los Santos Slasher is tough – he took three shotgun rounds from us before going down – but once you’ve defeated him, the GTA Online Navy Revolver will immediately appear in your weapon wheel, and you’ll be $50,000 richer. This also unlocks the GTA Online Navy Revolver Challenge, which we’ll explain next.

How to unlock the Red Dead Online Lowry’s Revolver

Once you have the GTA Online Navy Revolver in your possession, you’ll need to get 50 kills with it to complete the Navy Revolver Challenge. Thankfully these can be NPCs, so you can just head into a populated area and start racking them up without having to take on other players. You’ll receive a countdown notification of your total every 10 kills, and once you’ve done all 50 you’ll receive another $200,000 in your account along with confirmation that an exclusive weapon in Red Dead Online is discoverable.

To find the Red Dead Online Lowry’s Revolver, head along the path west from Valentine until you reach the building we’ve marked on the map above. When you approach it, you’ll discover it’s a seemingly abandoned ruin, although ominously the shutters leading down to the cellar are wide open. Brace yourself, take a deep breath, and head inside…

Clearly you’ve discovered the den of a serial killer, and there are some pretty shocking sights if you fully explore the cellar. Inspect the bench to the side and open the lock box to find the Red Dead Online Lowry’s Revolver, which is the Western equivalent of the GTA Online Navy Revolver. Lowry’s Revolver has some pretty decent stats for a handgun, which makes it a decent addition to any cowpoke’s arsenal. Now you just need to forget about the horrors you had to witness in that basement in order to get it!

Aircraft Carriers of the American Fleet — Playing Together

In the 40s of the XX century, unexpectedly for many military theorists, aircraft carriers began to resolutely push battleships in the status of undivided masters of the ocean expanses.

Versatility, mobility and the highest strike power of this class of ships over time made them an integral part of any naval unit. And although at first it was not easy for most American military leaders to abandon their familiar, albeit outdated, views on the principles of naval confrontation, by the beginning of

World War II carrier-based aviation managed to finally prove its combat potential even to the most stubborn skeptics.

Wings over the sea

The first large-scale combat debut of American carrier-based aviation was the naval battles of World War II. Having rather quickly recovered from the first, very painful defeats in the Pacific theater of operations, the United States began to resolutely restore the combat capability of its fleet, including its aircraft carrier wing.

A considerable number of aircraft carriers have been created from designs developed on the basis of ships of other classes — from coal miners and transports to heavy cruisers — or even converted from already built combat units. In record time, several dozen aircraft carriers were put into operation, designed to perform the widest range of tasks, including strikes against enemy naval formations and coastal positions, support for landing operations and escort of convoys.

By the end of 19For 45 years, the US Navy had more aircraft carriers in service than all other countries participating in the war combined. By adapting to the new combat tactics, the American Navy set the world as an example of the most effective and successful use of carrier-based aircraft in naval history.

Evolution of an aircraft carrier

The American aircraft carriers upgrade branch starts at the fourth level:

Tier IV — Langley

The first aircraft carrier that entered service with the American Navy. Rebuilt from Jupiter (Jupiter) in the early 20s, it served as a kind of platform on which design techniques and technological innovations were worked out for subsequent generations of aircraft carriers. Due to its specific origin, it could not boast of either strong armor or good speed. Since dive bombers had not yet entered service with the fleet at the time of construction, the Langley air group would be limited to squadrons of fighters and torpedo bombers.

Tier V — Bogue

An escort aircraft carrier built on the basis of the C-3 type transport. The production of ships of this class did not require much time and money, and therefore they were produced in large quantities throughout the Second World War. Although the Bogue was only slightly superior to the Langley in terms of speed and armament, for the first time dive bombers appeared on board, capable of both delivering a lot of trouble to enemy ships and protecting against a surprise attack.

Tier VI — Independence

By the middle of World War II, the construction of most of the Essex-class heavy strikers was far from complete, and in order to relatively quickly strengthen the carrier wing of the American fleet, it was decided to commission a series of relatively small ships. To this end, in 1942–1943, light aircraft carriers of the Independence class were launched, rebuilt from the hulls of the unfinished Cleveland series cruisers.

Due to its modest size, Independence carries only 2 universal guns on board, and therefore is practically unsuitable for close combat. Thanks to its «cruising» origin, it can boast of increased speed up to 32 knots and quite powerful air defense, which will allow, if not repelling an enemy attack, then at least evade wright ones.

Tier VII — Ranger

The first representative of the class in the American branch, originally built as an aircraft carrier, and not converted into it from another type of ship. To save displacement, limited by the terms of the Washington Agreement, the protection of the ship was noticeably weakened, but in terms of the size of the air group, it is not inferior to many larger “classmates”. It differed from other American aircraft carriers in a very unusual silhouette: its chimneys were located not in the superstructure, but in the aft part of the hull along the sides.

Tier VIII — Lexington

Under the terms of the Washington Agreement, each of the countries participating in the agreement had the right to rebuild two battleships or battlecruisers under construction into aircraft carriers to reduce financial losses. In the American Navy, Lexington-class ships converted from the hulls of cruisers of the same name became such “shifters”.

Inherited from its progenitor, the Lexington received a fairly good speed and quite decent protection by the standards of aircraft carriers, which, if necessary, will help repel an attack by light enemy ships in close combat. Well, powerful air defense and a large number of air groups, in most cases, simply will not let enemy ships and aircraft within firing range.

Tier IX — Essex

One of the most famous types of ships of the Second World War and the most massive series of attack aircraft carriers in the history of the fleet. Separate ships of this type were built in record time — about 14 months. Not a single shipbuilding school of those years was able to repeat the comparable pace of production of heavy attack aircraft carriers.

One of the important innovations in the design of the ship, which was successfully used in many subsequent generations of aircraft carriers, was an onboard aircraft elevator, which made it possible to save space on the flight deck. It differs from its predecessor in the development branch with an increased air group and weakened side armor, which forces the player to keep enemies within the range of an artillery salvo.

Tier X — Midway

USS Midway is the first and, in fact, the last «battle carrier» of the American Navy. It was equipped with an armored flight deck, first proposed by British designers, which is able to protect the ship even from heavy bombs. On board, Midway carries one of the largest air groups in World of Warships, which, combined with good speed and strong armor, turns it into a real storm of the sea!
