There are few things more frustrating than a confusing error code. Every company uses a different naming system for them, it’s never clear what the error means, and they seem to pop up at the worst times.

On Disney Plus, one of the most common error codes is «Error Code 83.» This one signals that Disney Plus thinks you’re using an «incompatible» device — in other words, it thinks you’re trying to watch on a device that can’t actually run the app.

This is probably meant to be an anti-piracy measure, but glitches mean that you can run into it even on the right devices. Luckily, assuming you are using a compatible device, there are a few quick ways to fix Error Code 83. Here’s what you should do.

Check your internet connection

Like most streaming apps, you need a strong internet connection to watch Disney Plus smoothly. And unfortunately, a spotty internet connection can trick Disney Plus into thinking that there’s an issue with your device, which will trigger Error Code 83.

If you’re using a wireless internet connection, try to strengthen the signal by resetting your router, moving the router closer to your streaming device, turning off other internet-connected devices, or simply connecting to a new signal.

If you’re using a computer, game console, or compatible streaming device, you can also connect to an ethernet cable instead.

Restart Disney Plus and your device

You’ve heard the old adage: «Turn it off and back on again.» This is still one of the best troubleshooting tips you can find.

First, shut down Disney Plus. Here’s how:

  • On a game console or streaming device, just close the app.
  • On a phone, swipe up from the very bottom of the screen to open the list of running apps, then swipe Disney Plus off the screen.
  • On a computer, exit your web browser.

Fully shut down the app, don’t just exit it.

Disney; William Antonelli/Insider

Then, open Disney Plus again and try watching something.

If that doesn’t work, you should turn your device off and back on again.

Following that, if you’re using your phone, game console, or streaming device, uninstall Disney Plus and re-download it.

Quick tip: Some users have claimed that switching to another Disney Plus account can help fix the problem too, so if you have another account, consider trying this.

Update your device and the app

Disney Plus has been around for a few years now and runs on all sorts of devices. If you haven’t updated your device in a while, Disney Plus might not support it anymore.

You can update your device through the Settings menu. If the device you’re using is so old that you can’t install updates, you should consider buying a new one.

You’ll also want to make sure that the Disney Plus app itself is updated. Here’s how:

  • On a game console or streaming device, highlight the Disney Plus app on your home screen and press the options button on your remote.
  • On a phone, head to the iPhone’s App Store or the Android Play Store.
  • On a computer, there’s no Disney Plus app, but you can update your web browser by clicking the three dots or lines in the top-right corner. You might need to open the browser’s Settings menu, too.

Most devices should install these updates automatically, but it never hurts to check.

Roku; William Antonelli/Insider

Make sure you’re watching with the right method

Disney Plus supports a variety of different devices. But each of these devices has a specific way to watch Disney Plus.

For example, if you’re using your iPhone or Android, make sure that you’re using the official Disney Plus app. Trying to watch through a web browser won’t work.

On a computer, third-party Disney Plus apps are unreliable. Instead, use a web browser to go straight to the Disney Plus website.

Quick tip: If you think your device might not be supported, you can check on Disney’s help site.

Disney Plus related errors

There are other error codes that can appear on Disney Plus that you might come across. Those include:

  • Error code 42: This is usually caused by an unstable or weak internet connection.
  • Error code 73: This is typically due to using a VPN while streaming.
  • Error codes 91 and 92: These are often caused by repeated failed logins or payment updates.
  • Error code 142: Another weak or slow internet error.

How to Fix Disney Plus Error Code 83

Many streaming services throw off error codes when things aren’t working as they should. For instance, Netflix will display the error code NW-2-5 when a connectivity-related issue prevents your device from communicating with the Netflix servers. Disney Plus also displays error codes, all of which have different causative factors.

You’ll get the “Error Code 83” on screen if your device is unable to connect with Disney Plus’ servers. This could be due to varying factors ranging from server downtime, poor internet connection, device compatibility issues, etc. Let’s walk you through some possible solutions to the problem.

Table of Contents

    1. Check Disney Plus Server Status

You might be unable to access Disney Plus if the streaming service is experiencing an outage. So before troubleshooting your browser and devices to resolve the Disney Plus “Error Code 83”, make sure Disney Plus isn’t experiencing server-side downtime.

Check Disney Plus’ service status using tools offering real-time website monitoring services—DownDetector and IsItDownRightNow are reliable. However, if these platforms indicate problems with the streaming service’s servers, you’d have to wait until Disney Plus fixes the issues. In the meantime, we recommend contacting Disney Plus Help Center to report the server downtime.

If these platforms report that Disney Plus’ servers are working correctly, close the Disney Plus tab on your browser, and revisit the streaming service’s website. If you’re still getting the “Error Code 83,” visit Disney Plus on another browser.

    2. Check Browser Compatibility/Try a Different Browser

If your preferred web browser doesn’t load Disney Plus, visit the streaming service on another browser. You also need to confirm that your browser(s) meets the system requirements to access Disney Plus.

Just so you know, Disney Plus doesn’t support browsers on game consoles, smart TVs, and devices running Linux and Chrome OS (i. e., Chromebooks). Also, if you’re using a PC or laptop, make sure you have a compatible browser.

Disney Plus supports Google Chrome (version 75 or newer), Mozilla Firefox (version 68 or newer), and Internet Explorer 11 on Windows and macOS devices. Microsoft Edge is also compatible with Disney Plus, but only on Windows 10 devices. Visit the Disney Plus Help Center to learn more about the service’s system requirements. Update your browser and device to the most recent version and access Disney Plus again.

    3. Check Internet Connection

Not only will a slow connection cause video to skip and buffer, but it can also trigger the Disney Plus error code 83. For the best and error-free streaming experience, Disney Plus recommends a minimum internet speed of 5.0 Mbps for HD content and 25.0 Mbps for 4K content.

Use web-based tools like Fast.com or Speedtest.net to test your internet speed. If test results show that your internet speed falls below the recommendations, move your device closer to the router and try again. Disconnecting unused and unrecognized devices from the network can also boost internet speed. If your connection remains unchanged, reboot your router, turn off your VPN app, or contact your internet provider.

For wired connections, refer to this troubleshooting guide on fixing slow Ethernet to get the speed you need. We also recommend reading this article on fixing intermittent internet speed to learn more about optimizing your connection for glitch-free streaming.

    4. Clear Disney Plus Site Data

When you visit webpages, your browser saves some elements of the page in its cache memory. While this information helps to improve websites’ performance and load speed, they sometimes cause issues.

If Disney Plus is working for other users, but you’re getting the Disney Plus “Error Code 83,” clear the streaming service’s site data on your browser and access the website again.

    6. Clear Disney Plus’ App Data

    1. Long-press the Disney Plus app icon and tap App info.
    1. Select Storage & cache.
    1. Tap the Clear Cache icon.

Disney Plus should no longer display the error code when you relaunch the app. If it does, restart your device and check again. You should also do this for non-mobile devices. How to Stream Disney Plus to TV

The Disney Plus app came out at the end of 2019 (and we’re happier than ever). It’s easy to see why it’s already so popular, with access to iconic Disney movies as well as entertainment content from Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and Pixar. But why put up with having to watch your favorite movies on the small screen of your phone or laptop? Let’s see how to cast Disney Plus to big screen TV.

You have several options for watching Disney Plus on your TV as the new Disney streaming service is compatible with many devices. The application works with popular media players, set-top boxes and game consoles. You can also use Google Chromecast to cast content from your iOS or Android mobile device to your TV. If you don’t have such a device connected to your TV, you can stream Disney Plus from your phone, tablet, or computer using an HDMI cable. Keep in mind that you may need to purchase hardware, such as an adapter for your phone or tablet.

If you have a smart TV, Disney Plus has already launched its own app. Once you download the Disney Plus app on your TV, you can access all the content on the service. Even if you don’t have an Apple TV, you can still stream Disney Plus content. Screen casting apps like AirBeamTV are the easiest option for Mac and MacBook users. You can wirelessly stream Disney Plus to your TV from your computer directly from your Chrome or Firefox browser — it’s convenient, affordable and doesn’t require any wires.

Ready to watch your favorite Disney movies in high definition? Then keep reading to find out how to play Disney Plus content on your TV in just a few easy steps.

AirBeamTV App for Playing Disney Plus on TV

Now you can enjoy Disney content without additional wires or equipment. The AirBeamTV app is a great solution and highly acclaimed by users. It’s compatible with Chrome and Firefox browsers on your Mac or MacBook, no wires needed!

When it comes to value, AirBeamTV offers the perfect option for screen sharing. You only pay once in the Mac App Store or through the website. You don’t have to worry about monthly subscription fees. AirbeamTV works with all popular smart TV brands. You won’t need to buy additional equipment such as an HDMI cable or adapter. This is especially important if you have kids so you don’t have to worry about them tripping over bulky cables. Just go to the App store to download the app. Then start screen casting from Disney Plus on your TV.

    Disney Plus Broadcast

If you want to avoid the clutter of wires, wireless screen casting apps are the way to go. Such applications will «map» the screen of your phone, tablet or computer to your TV.

The AirBeamTV Disney Plus video and audio app will work on any Mac, iMac, MacBook (Pro), or Mac Mini with Chrome browser installed. Screen mapping also works with the Firefox browser.

If you have an Apple TV, you’ll need an Apple TV HD 4th generation (2015) or later, or an Apple TV 4K. While Disney says they support AirPlay, reviews indicate that there are some technical issues when trying to use AirPlay to stream movies.

Even if you don’t have a smart TV, you can cast Disney Plus to your TV using Chromecast. Just install the Disney app on your device. Select a series or movie to watch on Disney Plus. Then click on the Chromecast icon in the top right corner.

Why isn’t it streaming Disney Plus on TV

Still can’t play Disney Plus on your TV? It may just need a couple of tweaks. First of all, try the following:

    • Restart your mobile device or computer.
    • Check your connection and make sure you have internet access.
    • Update all essential drivers such as sound, video, or network drivers.

Sometimes, problems with playing Disney Plus on TV can occur due to firewall settings.
