New Season 2 Release Date

To Release On February 24

Likely Release Date February 24, 11pm PT

Similar to previous Battle Passes in Modern Warfare, Season 2 is expected after Season 1 ends. Based on this assumption, Season 2 will probably begin on February 24, 11pm PT. The new season can be expected to heavily impact both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.

Release date, new map, Operators & more

Black Ops Cold War x Warzone Season 1 is nearing its end, so here’s the release date and everything else we know about Season 2.

Update 2/18/21: More information regarding the content of Season 2 and roadmap has been revealed by Treyarch. Read below for information regarding the release time for the new season, and click here for more up-to-date information.

Season 1 of Warzone and Black Ops Cold War brought the two games together, adding every weapon from Black Ops Cold War to Warzone’s already plentiful arsenal.

We’re approaching the end of Season 1 and clues for the future of Warzone have started appearing in Verdansk, including mysterious Zombies machines.

Here’s everything we know about Black Ops Cold War x Warzone Season 2, including a release date, weapons, Operators, and a possible open-world Zombies mode.

As confirmed by Activision in the official trailer for Black Ops Cold War x Warzone Season 2, the new season will launch on February 25.

For the season rollout, there will be two major patch updates for both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.

The first will drop for Black Ops Cold War on February 23 between 9PM and 11PM PT. The second will drop for Warzone on the following day, February 24, between 9PM and 11PM PT.

The Season Two content will not be available for Black Ops Cold War until the Warzone update on February 24. The Season officially launches February 25, but if you’re in the pacific time zone, you’ll get into the action late February 24.

This new season will be free for all players across Warzone and Black Ops Cold War and will feature a new battle pass, weapons, operators, maps, and more.

The Season 2 trailer has unveiled a new Operator: Naga.

Fighting for the Warsaw Pact, we see Naga in touch with Season 1 Operator Stitch regarding Adler’s capture before being attacked by Woods’ squad.

  • Read more: Best audio settings for CoD: Warzone

More information about this new Operator will likely be revealed on the run up to Season 2.

There were also a few more never-before-seen characters in the trailer, so it’s possible they will be available through the store in the future.

From the Season 2 trailer, we can spot several upcoming weapons for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.

Mini-Gun

Warzone players are all-too familiar with the power of the Mini-Gun, especially when Juggernauts ran rampant around Verdansk. Now, it looks like we’ll get to experience the Mini-Gun in Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer, as it’s seen used in the trailer.

It’s highly likely that the Mini-Gun will be a Scorestreak similar to the War Machine.

Galil

Continuing the trend of including new variations of classic Black Ops weapons, it appears the Galil will make an appearance in Season 2. Expect this fan-favorite Assault Rifle to be extremely popular in both multiplayer and battle royale.

Crossbow

Being heavily featured in the Season 2 trailer, it’s confirmed that the crossbow will be coming to Black Ops Cold War. It’s likely that it will be a secondary weapon in the ‘Special’ category along with the Thumper.

So, who’s rocking double Crossbows in Warzone?

New SMG

Also spotted in the trailer is a new SMG believed to be the AI-LC10.

We don’t have many details on the SMG yet, but if it’s anywhere near the MAC-10s power, we might be in for a new meta in Season 2.

While Season 1 gave us the smaller side-map Rebirth Island, Warzone players have been hankering for a new main map to replace Verdansk. Since Warzone’s launch, Verdansk has hardly changed at all, so either some significant changes or a new map entirely will be more than welcome.

It’s all-but-confirmed that the next map to hit Warzone will be ‘Ural Mountains.’ This is the map for Cold War’s Fireteam game mode, and Verdansk was first shown in Ground War, Modern Warfare’s equivalent large-scale mode.

  • Read more: Rumor: Call of Duty 2021 will be set during World War II era

While there isn’t any official confirmation yet, all signs point towards Ural Mountains being the next Warzone map.

As Warzone’s one-year anniversary takes place during Season 2, it’s entirely possible the new map will be dropped then, perhaps in the mid-season update.

There isn’t any word on what new multiplayer maps will be coming to Black Ops Cold War in Season 2, however, we can expect a mixture of remakes and brand new maps.

The jungle area from the Season 2 trailer will likely be made into a map, similar to how The Pines was included in the Season 1 cinematic.

Following on from Black Ops 2 maps Raid and Express being added to Cold War, we’re hoping to see Standoff or Firing Range added.

After finishing the Easter Egg for Firebase Z, the Ural Mountains are mentioned in the cutscene. This is the area that all Fireteam maps are within and is all-but-confirmed to be the next Warzone map.

With zombie machines being included in Verdansk, and the next Warzone map mentioned in Cold War’s Zombies game mode, it’s highly likely that the next Zombies map will be set in the Ural Mountains.

  • Read more: How to get Call of Duty League Stage 1 rewards

Further teasers by Treyarch make it increasingly likely that if Warzone does go to the Ural Mountains, it will be for the rumored ‘Outbreak’ open-world Zombies mode.

With Warzone heading there too, it would be interesting to see Activision combine the two game modes into one map.

That’s everything we know so far about Black Ops Cold War x Warzone Season 2, so stay tuned to Charlie INTEL as more information will be coming in soon!

How cod is caught in Norway

Every winter, Arctic cod perform their own ritual: millions of fish travel thousands of kilometers from the waters of the Barents Sea to Lofoten to spawn in the warm waters “heated” by the Gulf Stream. For Borge Iversen, my friend, a Norwegian captain with an exceptionally characteristic sailor and Viking appearance, winter is a difficult but most interesting time. Once every 2-3 days he goes out at night from the harbor of the fishing town of Balstad to the open sea for 12-15 hours of cod fishing.

To understand how people live in Lofoten, and how to catch 3 tons of cod practically with my own hands in one night, I went on a journey with Borge.

We had a very important mission — to make a unique material for the Continent Expedition magazine…

Borge, like all Norwegian sailors, is a very open and hospitable sailor. He has been out fishing for 40 years. In winter — serious work, cod fishing, and in summer — tourist trips, individual fishing tours. His ship is already 26 years old, and Borge spent most of his life on it.

A cold wind from the sea blows the last of the snow on the pier, and I tell Borga how we survived the storm last night in a fisherman’s hut — rorbu. Borge is not surprised by such stories about swaying houses: storms are frequent in Lofoten in winter. But still he decides to go to the open sea during the day, and not at night. Why at night? Borge replies: “It’s necessary to have time to ship the fish to the warehouse in the morning, the guys in the warehouse work the day shift.” Indeed, the Norwegians have a fishing season — from January to April, only 4 months a year. It is at this time that cod come to spawn in Lofoten.

In anticipation of an interesting adventure, Borge and I set off on our journey. The ship slowly leaves the wet pier, swaying on the weak waves of the harbor. Borge habitually maneuvers between endless rocks and lighthouses that bristle the shores of Balstad. At the same time, he manages to watch the biathlon championship with one eye on a small TV in the cockpit. And again, the Norwegians beat the Russians in the final — Borge makes fun of me a little, promising a difficult fight between the Russians and the Norwegians at the Sochi Olympics.

Meanwhile, the Borge ship leaves the harbor — and we immediately feel the temper of the stormy sea. The ship, like a chip, throws from crest to crest of dark restless waves. As I am tossed from side to side, Borge, swaying in the captain’s chair, calmly explains where we are going, showing us our usual path. In 2 hours we must go out to the open sea, away from the islands, and start fishing. Catches Borge cod in a traditional way that is at least 500 years old. They call it “long lines” or longline fishing.

How did we feel? To say bad is to lie. We started to turn back after half an hour of the way. The guys, the poor participants in our photo tour, also asked for their heads to go with me to the ship.
At first, in the bay, everything was relatively calm. Especially when they were in the bay. We went out to sea — it got worse, but tolerable: we flew only from wall to wall, without touching the ceiling yet …

But by nightfall it began. Then I put the camera down, doing something more important.
The poor guys spent the whole trip in torment and suffering, green, lay on these beds. They could not even get up from them to see what kind of traditional fishing it is.
No wonder Bjorge warned us at the beginning of the journey: backpacks on board the ship are a bad omen! It came true. But it was too late — backpacks were no longer needed.

We leave the calm bay. The last time you can stand without holding on to anything.

— See those colorful lines? Borge points to a monitor nailed to the base and secured by the corners. – This is the “long lines” or tiered lines. Simply put, Borge stretches a long line (750 meters) with a large number of hooks with bait, and then collects the catch by pulling the line on board with the help of special reels. Now Borge is much easier to swim, and he manages the ship and fishing alone.

He simply puts the ship on autopilot, synchronized with the computer navigation system. For me, he made an exception, taking with him on board. He says that sometimes he wants to talk, tell an interesting story to young people … He points to a compass that has turned yellow from time to time: “this is the heart of the ship, you can’t go to sea without it, any electronics can fail, and the compass will never let you down.”

Echoes of a night storm make themselves felt: waves 4-5 meters high in the open sea. Borge jokingly supports me, clinging to some detail at hand, calling the process of “flying” the ship from wave to wave “surfing”. For an organism unaccustomed to the sea, an empty stomach and fresh air are important. Both are already available, so after some time of flying from one side of the captain’s cabin to the other, I come to my senses. Borge just slows down, and we start looking for the beginning of the «line» — it is marked with a buoy with a reflector.

It’s already getting dark, but Borge’s keen eye quickly finds a red marker — a flag between the crests of the waves. The ends of the line are anchored and are at different depths. Depths are controlled by buoys. Borge fishes out a buoy — and starts picking up a rope to find the end of the line. But here we are in for a failure: the fishing line is torn off the rope. Apparently, the storm ruffled the unreliable knot. Or maybe it was a bad omen: I took on board my backpack with photographic equipment, and this is a bad sign for sailors. By the way, the backpack made itself felt, flying from the floor almost to the ceiling of the cabin, until I tied it to the leg of the table …

Borge is very worried about the actions of the authorities, commenting on the desire of large oil companies to develop new offshore fields: “Fishing is the basis of life for people in Lofoten, part of their traditions and way of life. About 25 thousand inhabitants live in Lofoten, and almost every second inhabitant is somehow connected with the sea. More than 500 ships go out to catch cod in winter. I am sure that 99% of fishermen in Lofoten are against the deployment of new ocean drilling rigs on the shelves.

More than 1.7 billion tons of cod live in the Barents Sea, and some come to spawn in the Lofoten. Any malfunction in the operation of drilling rigs can lead to a global catastrophe.”
Borge is sure that the development of the shelves off Lofoten is just a matter of time. Norway is the richest country in the world precisely because of oil, and the oil needle will not let the country go. The northern fields are gradually being depleted, and Lofoten, the most promising region for Statoil, the Norwegian oil company, remains untouched for now.

Some analysts estimate oil deposits at 1.3 billion barrels. Norway ranks third in the world in terms of oil exports. Norway’s small population has made it a very wealthy country. Oil is consumed domestically in very small quantities, and international companies are not allowed into the oil industry. And the government competently controls the country’s resources: oil in Norway really belongs to the people. By the way, there are constant disputes between Russia and Norway over the ownership of the coastal shelves of the Barents Sea. In any case, life in Lofoten will change dramatically in the coming decades if the oil industry reaches the archipelago.

We swam to the other end of the long line, also fished out an anchor, a rope — and here, fortunately, the fishing line was in place. Borge put the end on a large reel driven by the ship’s engine, and began to pull the line, putting the ship on a quiet course, indicating the end of the line on the autopilot. So for about 2 hours we drifted and caught cod. Here it is — the first fish! Arctic cod in Norwegian sounds like “Skrei”, which literally means “traveler”. Every 3-5 meters on the fishing line there are hooks with bait.

Borge stands at the edge of a ship swaying on the waves, and with a deft movement of a hook (a stick with a hook at the end) pulls the fish overboard as soon as the hook approaches the drum. Considering that Borge has been going on for six decades, the agility of the old sailor simply amazed me: literally with one hand in a second, Borge throws fish weighing up to 25 kilos into a container. And then the moment: a big fish breaks off the hook, its tail splashing loudly against the wave.

Borge reverses (all the levers are at hand), intercepts the harpoon stick and quickly returns the fugitive on board. All this happens so fast that you do not have time to understand how the fish ended up in the container. After all the line has been spooled into a large container, Borge kills the fish by stabbing it under the gills with a knife and then transfers it to a container of water.

Sharpens gaff.

A break — a cup of coffee with chocolate chip cookies — and back to work. Now you need to stretch a new line with fresh bait. Borge uses shrimp or pieces of herring as bait. The line unwinds quite quickly — there is no need to drift anymore. The night has already covered the sea. Now there is a heavy downpour, the element does not subside. Borga is no stranger: in winter there are even worse conditions: snow storms, glaciation on the ship . ..

I dozed off in Borge’s cabin for a couple of hours to the sound of the rain and the ship’s engine. I woke up already on the third line — Borge still offers me a cup of coffee with the same cheerful smile. We got a little off course: it turned out that in the course of my flights around the wheelhouse I slightly knocked down the electronics, and I had to tinker a bit to re-adjust the instruments.

Borge tensed a little: without navigational electronics in such a storm and a wall of rain, it is very difficult to get home to land among the sharp rocks of Lofoten. But nothing, corrected all the devices, their reliability is high. We look out for the last marker, scanning the sea with a powerful flashlight. 3-4 circles around the point marked on the map — and we notice the reflection of the buoy reflector.

Another 2 hours and the third line is over: Borge returns to the wheelhouse and we have time to talk again.
-Today’s catch is 500 fish, which is about 1.5 tons of fish, says Borge. – This is a good result. I have quotas for seasonal fishing: it is allowed to catch about 100 tons of cod per season. The government regulates both fishing grounds and quotas: Borge is required to fill out a log book.

But why does Borge use such a traditional way of catching fish, not trawling, not using nets? The captain himself answers this way: “I love my job, I love the sea and the traditions of our land. When you live in harmony with your native land, with the sea, then work brings pleasure.”

Two hours on the way home are spent talking and sea stories — and only at 4 in the morning we get on solid ground. Honestly, I was completely exhausted that night, which can not be said about Borg. There is not the slightest trace of fatigue on his face, only the same good-natured smile and thoughtful swaying with an expressive roll of «Ja, Ja, Ja …» at the beginning of each phrase. Borge invited me to see what was going on with the fish the next day.
In some kind of coma, the bags of our bodies fell into the cars and after a while miraculously ended up in a rorba.

The next day, having hardly lifted myself from the bed in cloudy weather, I again went to look at the fish. I didn’t have to travel far: in every small village of the archipelago there are whole rows of poles on which either the body of a fish or fish heads is suspended. Borge ships the fish to the warehouse — and then it is processed: they cut off the head, liver, caviar, tongue. Fish is divided into several varieties: fresh, for drying and for salting. Basically, the fish is dried. What you see in the photos is a special Lofoten-only way of curing fish: it hangs outdoors from January to May.

The fish is not pretreated in any way: the tails are simply tied and hung on poles. The temperature in Lofoten is optimal for drying: on the one hand, it rarely drops below zero, so the ice does not tear the tissues of the fish, and on the other hand, it is not too high so that flies and insects do not spoil the cod. At the same time, seagulls cannot pick off the tied fish from above, sitting on poles. A strong sea wind quickly dries up the bundles of fish, reducing its weight by 5 times. This produces a “concentrated” cod, which is very convenient to transport, while it does not lose its nutritional properties and is stored for a very long time. To get almost fresh fish — just add water, like a puree soup!

We talked to local boys who work on their farm. They say heads are taken to Africa for soup.
On traditional Norwegian hjells («hjell» — drying poles) hang not only the bodies of fish, but also their heads. It turns out that the heads are also in great demand — they are exported to Africa and made into soups there.

This is how she dries all winter.

Italians and Norwegians idolize each other: dried cod comes mainly to Italy. And the tradition of cooking cod in Italian cuisine was started by the Venetian merchant Petro Querini, who visited the islands back in 1432 and brought with him a barrel of dried fish. Since then, Italians have been inseparable from their favorite Norwegian cod dishes.

The next morning I met Borge. He cheerfully greeted me after another night of solo fishing. To the question “how is fishing?” got the answer:
— One thousand!
— One thousand kilograms — a ton? I asked.
— No — one thousand fish, only 3 tons! And the largest weighed about 30 kilograms!

Cod fishing

Cod

Big and tasty fish. Found mainly in deep and cold waters.

Size and weight of cod.

Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) can reach up to 2 meters and 90 kilograms. Today (perhaps due to large-scale catches), the weight of fish ranges on average from 1 to 7 kilograms. The Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) is considerably smaller. It is only about 1 meter long. The maximum weight is about 23 kilograms, but on average it weighs approximately 2 to 4 kilograms.

Habitat and fishing season for cod. When and where to fish?

Atlantic cod is found in the seas north of North Carolina, in Greenland and Iceland, from the Bay of Biscay to the Arctic Ocean, including the Baltic, North, Hebrides and Barents Seas. Pacific cod lives north of the Yellow Sea in Asia and into the United States.

Amateur fishermen will find excellent conditions for cod fishing in Norway, Denmark, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Svalbard.

Cod generally prefers rocky or sandy subarctic seabed at a depth of 300 meters, with various shells and sufficient food.

Cod fishing is possible throughout the year. In spring, large-sized cod walks in schools; in summer, single trophy specimens continue to come across. In autumn, it is already found, mostly medium-sized, but also comes across schools and large cod. In winter, it is caught in medium sizes.

It is important to know that both species gather in large schools during winter and early spring during spawning. This is what fishermen use for a successful catch.

Tackle and lures for cod. How to catch?

Three types of fishing are used for cod fishing — trolling, drifting and sea spinning.

The most optimal and very favorite bait of animal origin by cod is the same capelin, herring, polar cod, saury, sprat, meat of small crustaceans and mollusks. We will not refuse the artificial one either and take it with us — these are different jigs, large sea wobblers and oscillating baubles.

Cod taste.

This is a phenomenal tasting fish.

Due to commercial fishing, cod is listed as vulnerable and endangered.
