Which edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 should I buy?
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is finally, officially here and it’s packed with new features, including a battle royale mode and a new Zombies storyline. If you haven’t picked up the latest in the massive Call of Duty franchise, figuring out which edition to buy is the first step.
Just about every AAA game launches with multiple editions packing on more than just the basic game. Figuring out which one to buy can be a frustrating and confusing experience. Most of it comes down to personal preference and gaming style — you probably already know if you want a physical or digital copy — but the addition of exclusive skins, season passes and bonus currency makes it trickier. A $60 (or more) game is an investment, and it’s hard to figure out how to get the most bang for your buck.
Granted, the stakes are a little lower with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 editions. Unlike Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, there isn’t any exclusive in-game content (other than pre-orderers, who got access to the private beta) and you can upgrade by paying the price difference at any time before the Black Ops Pass releases.
For most players I’d recommend the Digital Deluxe Edition, unless you’re positive you’re not interested in playing the post-launch DLC that will exclusively be available via the Black Ops Pass. A breakdown of what’s included in each edition is below.

The Standard Edition, physical or digital, is just the base game, which includes the Blackout Battle Royale experience and three new Zombies maps for $59.99.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Digital Deluxe Edition
Activision changed up its DLC distribution strategy with Black Ops 4: Post-launch content will not be available a la carte. The only option is to buy the season pass, called the Black Ops Pass, in order to play any of the extra missions released over the next year.
Activision hasn’t released pricing on the Black Ops Pass, but previous Call of Duty season passes went for $49.99. With the Deluxe Edition at $99.99, there’s a possibility that you’ll save around $10, plus there’s $20 worth of Call of Duty Points (in-game currency) to play with.
As the name suggests, this version is only available digitally.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Digital Deluxe Enhanced Edition
The Digital Deluxe Enhanced Edition includes everything the Digital Deluxe edition does, with more “bonus items” and about $80 worth of Call of Duty Points. It retails for $129.99.

Also known as the Mystery Box Edition, this $200 bundle comes with a bunch of collectible swag, including a replica of the in-game Zombie mystery box with “frightening sounds and lighting”.

Black Ops Pass
The Black Ops Pass is included in the Digital Deluxe Edition, the Digital Deluxe Enhanced Edition and the Pro Edition, and represents a new approach to post-launch content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, including a robust live season for the community.
Instead of having four separate content drops, Black Ops 4 fans will experience a more frequent cadence to keep things fresh and deliver new maps and content more regularly throughout the year.
There will be more details soon, but for now here’s a list of what comes in the Black Ops Pass, for players who are ready to fully immerse themselves into all three modes of Black Ops 4.

The new Zombies experience, Classified, is in addition to the three new Zombies experiences coming at launch: IX, Voyage of Despair and Blood of the Dead. That means fans who pick up the Black Ops Pass will have four Zombies adventures on launch day, and then four more to sink their teeth into post-launch. Now that’s a lot of Zombies.
And with a ton of post-release content for all three modes of Black Ops 4, the team is focused on delivering an epic season of content to support Black Ops 4 post-launch.

Ops IIII ) is a multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. It is a sequel to Call of Duty : Black OPS III (2015), Fifth part of the subsection Black OPS of Duty .
Black Ops 4 is the first game in the entire series without the traditional single-player campaign mode. Instead, there is a «Solo Missions» mode focused on the backstories of the game’s multiplayer characters, called «specialists». The action of the missions in the chronology of the series takes place between Black Ops II and Black Some specialists are carried over from the third part. In multiplayer mode, for the first time in the series, there is no automatic health regeneration, recoil prediction systems and new ballistics are introduced. On release day, the game had 3 Zombies maps, and in the special edition of the game or with the purchase of the Black Ops Pass, 4 maps. The locations of the maps are the Titanic, the arena in ancient Rome, and the federal prison Alcatraz. Introduced a multiplayer mode «Blackout» (Blackout), supporting up to 100 players in each match. Many characters from this game and other games Black Ops are used as character models for this mode.
Development of the game began shortly after the release of Black Ops III . Treyarch decided not to make a campaign mode early in development, opting to focus on the multiplayer aspect. The company has noticed an increasing interest in multiplayer and the modest amount of time spent by the player base in the campaign. For Windows, Black Ops 4 uses Blizzard’s Battle.net platform instead of Steam, this is also the first such solution in the series. Pre-release reception of the game was mixed. Fans of the series have expressed disappointment at the lack of a campaign. The Black Ops Pass for DLC distribution was critically acclaimed due to the fact that map packs became available only through it, and not separately, as was the case with the DLC of past games.
Gameplay

Multiplayer
Specialists are back here — unique soldiers with special abilities and traits. Automatic health regeneration was removed, replacing it with a manual healing system (each player has a health bar), weapons got predictable recoil patterns, a mixed ballistic system was introduced that uses both bullet damage and damage calculated according to the hitscan principle (calculation of the point of intersection of a bullet with an object ), not just hitscan.
Emphasized the customization of weapons, it became possible to more deeply personalize the player’s arsenal. Weapon attachments are now tiered as well, with tier 2 providing more powerful weapon upgrades. In addition, the game has a solo mission mode, where the player gets to know the backstories of various specialists in skill-based missions. Misses are held in the same narrative world as the campaigns Black OPS , between the events Black and 9000 Black Black Black Black OPS III .
Zombies
Returned as a cooperative multiplayer mode. Customization options have been expanded, providing more personalized playstyles. The mechanics of the game can be customized through «custom mutations», where there are over 100 variables: overall difficulty, speed, health, zombie damage, and more.
Time-limited events called «Challenges» were promised to be introduced into the game for the sake of a long-term hobby. Similar to Nazi zombie mode from Call of Duty : WWII , custom gear included, allowing players to choose different starting weapons, equipment and special upgradeable weapons, as well as perks for each match.
Black Ops 4 is the first game to feature two separate Zombies storylines. After the release, 3 maps are available on the disk: «Voyage of Despair», which takes place on the Titanic; «IX», in the arena of ancient Rome; «Blood of the Dead», a light modification of the «Crowd of the Dead» card from Black Ops II , once again deployed in Alcatraz Prison. The first two cards form the «Chaos» storyline with new characters: Scarlett, Stanton, Diego and Bruno; «Blood of the Dead» returns to the «Aether» storyline that appeared in past games Black Ops , where the 4 original characters are the main ones: Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo and Richtofens, collectively as Primis .
The fourth map, «Classified», is included in the special editions of the game and in the Black Ops Pass, and is a remake of the «Five» map from Black Ops ; here, the playable characters are members of Primis’ original incarnation — Ultimis.
Blackout
This is a multiplayer mode that replaces the campaign. Using the traditional battle style Black OPS , the mode is characterized by the largest card in the series of the total Call of 0048 Duty . Players compete against each other in locations from previous parts Black Ops . The mode has land, sea and air modes of transport that players can use. There are various playable characters from the entire series Black Ops , including Alex Mason from the first part, Raul Menendez from the second part, Primis squad from Zombies .
Blackout is played with up to 100 players. They can choose to play it solo, in a duet or in a four. Players enter the map by jumping from a helicopter, then must obtain equipment that allows them to survive and be the last survivor. As before, there is a circle on the map that shrinks and reduces the playable area of the map, thus making the fights tighter. In addition to regular weapons, the player can take first-aid kits, armor, various types of ammo, weapon attachments, and consumable perks. AI-controlled enemy zombies spawn in special locations like the Mental Hospital or the Lighthouse. Killed zombies drop special items, such as Beam Weapons or Cymbal Monkeys. You can cross the map in several vehicles, including an all-terrain vehicle and a helicopter. nine0079
Similar to the multiplayer battle game Fortnite and the main multiplayer, Blackout contains special modes that change the presence or mechanics of physical objects in the world. Modes like «Close Range» are dedicated to fast and aggressive style, as they exclude long-range weapons, while «Fast Collapse» mode narrows the circle faster.
Plot
The story begins in the year 2043 in Washington DC, when Lucy and Savannah Mason visit the grave and mourn for Lucy’s mother, Jessica Mason Green, who was a black ops soldier. But during a secret mission to invade a fort full of mercenaries, other specialists, including Ruin and Battery, try to disrupt the mission; they are subdued, leaving Jessica badly injured. When the black operatives return to the estate, Savannah decides to train through a series of simulations with the help of Sergeant Woods. nine0079
Development
Speaking about the reasons for the lack of a campaign, Treyarch co-leader Dan Banting revealed that a campaign mode for Black Ops 4 was never planned. He indicated that the team wanted to try something different, to make the game more playable for friends. This statement disproved reports that the campaign was removed mid-development due to time constraints. Treyarch noticed that most players Black Ops III plays in multiplayer without participating in the single player campaign.
Following the announcement, an Activision spokesperson said that the elimination of the campaign is not a permanent change to the series, and that the campaign could return in the next installment in 2019.

will be a continuation of the sub-series Black Ops , the first in 3 years. On March 5, Call of Duty franchise news site Charlie Intel obtained images from GameStop’s internal database of item listings intended to promote Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
On March 7, 2018, NBA basketball player James Harden before a basketball game seen wearing an orange logo hat. People noticed the similarity of the logo with past logos for games Black Ops : same orange Roman numerals.
Harden later confirmed that he was indeed promoting Black Ops 4. On March 8, Activision formally announced the game and released a teaser trailer. The presentation event took place on May 17, 2018.
The release of the game was moved to an earlier date due to the expected release of Red Dead0004 2 at the end of October 2018. As with past games, those who pre-ordered the game were given access to a private beta multiplayer. On July 11, 2018, Activision and Treyarch announced the dates for the multiplayer beta: PS4 exclusive August 3-6, other platforms August 10-13. For Windows, the open multiplayer beta for all players ran from August 11-13, with pre-orders getting access a day early. On June 11, Activision and Treyarch announced 3 special editions of the game: Digital Deluxe , Digital Deluxe Enhanced and Pro Edition .
All three included the Black Ops Pass, a special season pass with access to the «Classified» Zombie Map, as well as 4 other maps coming in 2019, 12 multiplayer maps, and 4 Blackout exclusive characters. Instead of distributing new maps through map packs, as in the past Call of Duty will deliver new content more frequently throughout the year. Players who pre-purchased any digital editions on PlayStation 4 received the Back in Black Card Pack for Call of Duty : Black 0003 III . The package includes 4 remastered multiplayer maps: Jungle, Summit, Slums and Tyr (Black Ops 4 has all of them initially). The Collector’s Edition Mystery Box Edition was also announced, containing various physical items in the style of a zombie, such as a “mystery box” based on the mechanic of the same name from the game, lithographs of three zombie cards from the disk.
