How to scan Animal Crossing QR codes
Before you start applying the QR codes around your island or to your character, you’ll need to know how to get them into your game. You can scan any custom design into Animal Crossing: New Horizons via the NookLink app, so you can bring in designs created in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. - Download the Nintendo Switch Online app onto a mobile device
- Link your Nintendo account
- Select ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ from the home screen
- Select ‘Designs’
- A QR code scanner will open and you can then scan your chosen code

How to use Animal Crossing: New Horizons design codes
Animal Crossing QR codes are mainly used to transfer designs from the older games into New Horizons. However, a lot of the designs you will find online have an alphanumeric code rather than a scannable QR code. Find out how to use the alphanumeric codes below:
- Head to The Able Sisters shop in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Interact with the pink terminal in the back right corner of the shop
- Select ‘Access the kiosk.
’ - You can then search by ‘Design ID’ or ‘Creator ID’
- Type the code for the design or creator you want
- You will then be shown the design or creator you have chosen
- Save the design to use in-game

First things first, you need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. After subscribing, download the Nintendo Switch Online app then log into your account.

3. Select Nook Link Then Custom Designs
After logging in, check your in-app services & look for the «Nook Link» option. Select this, then go to «Custom Designs».

Open up your 3DS & scan the QR code of the design to activate the transfer! Note that in order to get QR code in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, you need to be close enough with Sable.
4. Confirm Transfer In-Game
Once you’ve completed and confirmed the transfer, check your Custom Designs app in the Nook Phone to locate your newly transferred design!

Have A Physical Sample Ready
If you’re trying to make a pro design, try to have a physical sample ready. It’ll be easier for you to copy that sample if you can see it physically.
Place Background Color Nearby
It’s best to set the background color adjacent to your most used colors. This makes corrections easier and you don’t have to go too far down the color wheel to fix and mistakes.
Adjust Background Color Last
It is also recommended to adjust the background color last. It’s easy to change colors by selecting the «Change Color» tool but it’s best to adjust the background color after all your designs have been implemented.
Start With Smaller Designs First
It’s easier to fill in colors with bigger spaces so concentrate on finishing up your smaller designs first. It’ll also be easier to adjust the sizing of smaller designs.
Determine Design Size ASAP
Your overall canvas is 32 x 32 squares so it’s best to determine the size of your design as soon as possible. Once you’ve designed a part, take a step back and look at the overall design to adjust its size.
Look At Overall Design Frequently
You’ll see the overall look and feel of your design on the lower left part of the screen. Whether it’s a dress, a painting, or a hat, checking the sample will help you determine the scale & look of your design.

In continuation of the post “Analogue of the game“ Life ”- Evo ”, I would like to give a more detailed description of the commands of the“ gene language ”used in Evo, and share my thoughts on the methods of crossing individuals in this game.
Genetic code
The genetic code of individuals in Evo is a sequence of bytes of almost unlimited length. In this case, each byte is treated as a command for a cellular automaton. The machine has 2 tapes: commands and memory.
Accordingly, there are two pointers cmd_ptr and mem_ptr . As the RAM of the animal, the variable data is used, with a dimension of 1 byte (8 bits).
At the moment there are the following commands:
- 9 commands to control the execution of the «genetic» code:
- nop — do nothing
- move_cmd_left — move command pointer to the left
- move_cmd_right — move command pointer to the right
- jump_to — shift the command pointer to the right by X positions (the byte following the command is treated as signed char, that is, negative values will shift the pointer to the left)
- jump_to_ifz — the same as jump_to, but provided that the value data == 0
- jump_to_ifnz — the same as jump_to, but provided that the value data != 0
- start — same as nop , just a label for the beginning of some separate piece (the beginning of the function)
- restart — resets the value of cmd_ptr to 0
- end — the end of the function, makes it look further along the tape for the start label, from which to continue execution (if there is no label, then cmd_ptr=0 )
- 8 commands that allow animals to look around themselves (the results are stored in the RAM of animals, in the variable data ):
- eye_up_distance — get the distance to the nearest object up
- eye_down_distance — get the value of the distance to the nearest object down
- eye_left_distance — get the value of the distance to the nearest object to the left
- eye_right_distance — get the value of the distance to the nearest object to the right
- touch_up — get the value of the type of the nearest object up
- touch_down — get the value of the type of the nearest object down
- touch_left — get the value of the type of the nearest object to the left
- touch_right — get the value of the type of the closest object to the right
- 10 commands for managing the memory of living creatures:
- move_mem_left — move the mem_ptr pointer to the left
- move_mem_right — move mem_ptr to the left
- save_to_mem — save the contents of the living RAM to the current cell ( data )
- load_from_mem — load the value from the current cell into the RAM of living creatures ( data )
- add_mem — add the value of the current memory cell
- sub_mem — subtract from data the value of the current memory cell
- set_mem_ptr — set mem_ptr to RAM value
- data_clear — clear RAM
- data_inc — increment value in RAM
- data_dec — decrement value in RAM

- 12 commands for actions that animals can do (send signals to the World object):
- action_move_left — animals move to the left
- action_move_right — creature moves to the left

- action_eat_left — living creature tries to eat the object on the left
- action_eat_right — living creature tries to eat the object on the left
- action_eat_up — living creature tries to eat the object on the left

- action_suicide — living creature self-destructs
- action_split — living creatures are divided by cloning
- action_split_mutate — living creatures are divided by cloning, but with some mutations

Another question is that describing algorithms in such a language is not as convenient as in C++, for example. nine0009

I will not explain the algorithm. I think it's pretty obvious.
You can find this code in mainwindow.cpp:117.Mutations
Mutations in the game are now implemented like this. At the desire of the organism to multiply by cloning with a mutation, a clone is created. The clone undergoes mutations in an amount from 0 to 9 (at the discretion of the great random). For each mutation, the great random chooses one of 4 options:
- 1 arbitrary code byte is replaced by an arbitrary value
- random byte
- a byte is bitten off from DNA in an arbitrary position
- Arbitrary byte inserted into DNA at random position (fresh commit)
is added to the DNA
About crossing
Now let's move on to thinking about how we cross two organisms. Their code may be of different lengths, they may have different memory.
- The first thing that comes to mind is simply to mold 2 DNA into one of greater length.
But in this case, the second part of the algorithm may not function at all, or it may work extremely rarely. Well, well - it will actually be a recessive gene. nine0030
- You can take, say, 3 arbitrary points on each DNA and assemble a new one according to the principle: piece 0-1 from the first DNA, 1-2 from the second, 2-3 from the first, 3-4 from the second. Moreover, the pieces can be of zero length.
- You can look for tags start|end and sculpt new DNA by simply putting together functions from different organisms. This will force the creatures to try to somehow structure the code.
- There is an option to take a byte from each organism in a cycle until their DNA runs out. Some such Frankinstein will turn out, but its properties will be very interesting. nine0030
That's probably all the options that immediately come to my mind. I haven't thought about memory inheritance yet.
AND! Here's something else I forgot.
What do you think is better?
- After X rounds take Y best and cross them. At the same time, kill the entire population, populate the world with these Y individuals and their descendants.
- Every X rounds, take Y (from 2 to 5, say) the strongest and cross them, adding their offspring to the population.
